What is Somatic Experiencing®?

Somatic Experiencing® (SE), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a powerful, body-based approach to healing trauma, stress, and overwhelm. Unlike traditional talk therapies that focus mainly on thoughts and memories, SE works directly with the nervous system to gently release stored trauma and restore a natural sense of safety, resilience, and balance.

Traumatic experiences — whether from childhood, accidents, medical procedures, or stressful life events — often leave lasting imprints in the body. These unresolved patterns can show up as anxiety, chronic tension, sleep issues, emotional overwhelm, or feeling “stuck. Somatic Experiencing helps you reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom and capacity to heal, without the need to relive painful memories.

How Somatic Experiencing® Works
In a safe and supportive therapeutic space, you are guided to notice and work with subtle bodily sensations, emotions, and movement patterns. By slowing down and cultivating awareness, your nervous system can gradually release old survival responses, allowing deep healing and integration to take place. This gentle approach makes it possible to address both obvious traumas and the quieter, hidden impacts of early life stress.

Sessions last typically 60 minutes and are offered in person in Dublin or online for clients worldwide. As a qualified Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, I have completed professional psychotherapy training along with advanced SE training accredited by the European Association for Somatic Experiencing and Somatic Experiencing International®.
